Meat & Dairy

  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese Adds a luscious mouthfeel.
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Melts into gooey perfection.

  • 1 egg egg (optional) Adds creaminess to the ricotta mixture.

Vegetables & Sauce

  • 24 oz marinara sauce (no added sugar) Provides a vibrant sauce.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then add the chopped onions. Sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  • Stir in the lean ground beef and brown for 7-10 minutes.
  • Pour in the marinara sauce and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  • In a separate bowl, mix ricotta, optional egg, salt, pepper, and basil.
  • In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with mozzarella on top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make it ahead: Assemble a day in advance and refrigerate. Consider adding vegetables for a nutritious twist. Serve with a garden salad or garlic bread.
