Ingredients

For the Sugar Coating

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries These vibrant, juicy berries are the star of the show.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar For sweetening the simple syrup and coating.
  • 0.5 cups water Essential for dissolving the sugar.
  • 0.5 cups sugar (for simple syrup) Used to create a flavorful syrup.
  • 1 cup sugar (for coating) Necessary for rolling the cranberries.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Once the syrup is ready, add the fresh cranberries to the warm mixture, stirring gently to coat. Allow them to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cranberries to a wire rack to dry for about 1 hour.
  • Roll the dried cranberries in the remaining 1 cup of sugar until coated. Allow them to dry for another hour before serving or storing.

Notes

Choose firm cranberries to ensure they hold up during the process. Infuse the syrup with spices like cinnamon or vanilla for added flavor. Let the cranberries sit in the syrup long enough to absorb sweetness, but not too long to become mushy.
