Icing Ingredients

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
  • In another bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy and light in color, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the milk and pure vanilla extract to the butter mixture, mixing until incorporated.
  • Gradually mix in the flour mixture until a soft dough forms.
  • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about 1 hour.

Baking

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut out shapes with a snowflake cookie cutter.
  • Place cut-out cookies on prepared baking sheets and freeze for 10 minutes before baking.
  • Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before icing them.

Icing

  • Mix together powdered sugar, light corn syrup, milk, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Divide the icing, tint one half with blue food coloring, and use piping bags to decorate cooled cookies.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of pearl decorations.

Notes

Use high-quality butter and vanilla for maximum flavor. If dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Experiment with food coloring for variety.
