Ingredients

Cookie Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened softened until creamy and luscious
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar brings just the right touch of sweetness
  • 1 large egg at room temperature for an even mix
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract aromatic and warm
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour for that classic cookie texture
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder natural or Dutch-process, rich and velvety
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt to balance the sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons warm milk for creamy consistency
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder for added depth of flavor

Dipping Chocolate and Toppings

  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped for a decadent dip
  • Optional toppings: Maraschino cherries, sprinkles, or coarse sugar for a festive touch

Instructions

Preparation

  • Chill your baking sheets in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes, then line them with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth.
  • Gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until fluffy.
  • Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt at a low speed, then increase to high until a thick, smooth dough forms.
  • Warm the milk in the microwave and dissolve the espresso powder in it. Add this to the dough, mixing until creamy.
  • Use a piping bag fitted with a large tip to pipe the cookie dough onto your prepared baking sheets.
  • Refrigerate the piped cookies for another 20-30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
  • Bake the cookies for 12–15 minutes, keeping a close eye on them.
  • Let them cool slightly on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Finishing Touch

  • Melt the finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Dip the bottoms of cooled cookies into the melted chocolate and add optional toppings while the chocolate is still warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is at room temperature. Experiment with different types of chocolate. Consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or almond extract for a unique twist.
