  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Enhances the overall flavor.

For decoration

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Beat the softened butter until creamy.
  • Add confectioners' sugar and mix until fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract until well combined.
  • Gradually sift in the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and flatten them gently on the baking sheets, spacing them 3 inches apart.
  • Bake for 13-14 minutes until the edges are set and tops are slightly golden.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Beat the softened butter until creamy for the frosting.
  • Mix in the confectioners' sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract until smooth.
  • Frost each cooled cookie generously.
  • Sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
