Ingredients
  

For the chocolate cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (13.25 oz.) Along with the ingredients called for on the box
  • 3 Tbsp. kirsch cherry liqueur (optional) Adds depth and flavor to the dessert

For the pudding and whipped cream

  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding (3 oz.) For a creamy chocolate layer
  • 2 cups milk To bring the pudding to life
  • 2 cups heavy cream For a fluffy topping
  • 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar Sweet perfection for the whipped cream

For the layering

  • 1 jar cherry preserves (13 oz.) For a burst of fruity goodness
  • to taste chocolate shavings For finishing touch

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to box instructions and bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely, then poke holes in it and brush with kirsch if using.
  • Cut the cooled cake into bite-sized pieces.
  • Whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until thickened, then refrigerate to set.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and confectioners’ sugar until medium peaks form.
  • Mix the cherry preserves with any remaining kirsch.

Layering and Serving

  • Layer in small glasses: start with a layer of chocolate cake, followed by whipped cream, cherry preserves, and chocolate pudding.
  • Repeat layers, ending with a generous dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.
  • Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

For best results, ensure heavy cream is very cold before whipping. Consider using sugar-free options or substituting yogurt for cream for lighter variations.
