For the dumplings

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s no longer pink, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  • Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Mix in the tomato paste and let it cook for an additional minute. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture.
  • Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add dried thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Allow to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until thickened.

Dumpling Preparation

  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix in softened butter until coarse, then stir in milk until a dough forms.
  • Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough onto the beef mixture, ensuring even spacing.
  • Cover with a lid and reduce heat to low, steaming the dumplings for about 15 minutes.
  • Check for doneness; the dumplings should be fluffy. Let sit uncovered for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture. Fresh herbs can be sprinkled on top before serving for freshness.
