  • 6 pieces hamburger buns For serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned, then drain excess fat.
  • Transfer the browned beef to a slow cooker. Add the chopped onion, optional green bell pepper, and minced garlic.

Sauce Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, mix together ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika until well combined.
  • Pour the sauce over the beef mixture in the slow cooker and stir well to coat the ingredients evenly.

Cooking

  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4–6 hours or on high for 2–3 hours.
  • After cooking, stir the mixture to combine any remaining sauce and serve generously on warm hamburger buns with optional toppings.

Notes

For added heat, consider adding jalapeños or hot sauce to the mix. For vegetarian options, substitute ground beef with plant-based alternatives or lentils. Serve with sides like sweet potato fries or coleslaw.
