Ingredients

Macaron Shells

  • 1 cup almond flour finely ground to create a tender base
  • 1 3/4 cup powdered sugar adding a smooth, sweet richness
  • 3 large egg whites essential for that airy texture
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar to stabilize the meringue
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder imparting a rich chocolate flavor
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract enhancing the overall aroma with warmth
  • A pinch salt balancing the flavors beautifully

Filling

  • 1/2 cup Nutella the star ingredient, offering creamy and nutty bliss

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Sift together the almond flour, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder in a medium bowl, ensuring a light and airy mixture free of lumps.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites on medium speed until foamy, and gradually incorporate the granulated sugar. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form, creating a glossy meringue.
  • Gently fold the sifted dry ingredients into the whipped egg whites using a spatula. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.
  • Fold in the vanilla extract to add depth of flavor.
  • Transfer the batter to a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small circles onto the lined baking sheet, spacing them appropriately.
  • Tap the baking sheet gently on the counter to release any air bubbles trapped in the batter. Let the macarons rest for 30-60 minutes until a skin forms on the surface.

Baking

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the macarons feel firm to the touch and have developed their feet.
  • Allow the macarons to cool completely before carefully peeling them off the parchment paper.
  • Spread Nutella on the flat side of half of the macarons and sandwich them with the remaining shells.

Serving

  • Enjoy fresh or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

Ensure your mixing bowls and utensils are clean and free from grease. Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements. For best results, allow macarons to rest before baking to achieve the perfect texture.
